@Brian, I recommend trying to avoid arguing about religion with religious people. They are often more willing to reject evidence, and even reasoning itself, than their religious beliefs. Such people are categorically insane, and should be treated as such (you wouldn't try to reason with a psychopath, no would you?). Stay tuned, my take on ethics is coming. It may take a few more weeks though.

There is too much ignorance(in the usa) from religious people in my opinion to even try to argue number 2. I find myself coming up against the same straw man arguments a lot.If i wrote a book that said my god could only be worshiped properly by having 20 ft pictures of him that shoot out fireworks at every place of worship people would say my religion and i are mad. But when i point out a holy text contradicts itself or promotes socially unacceptable things (ie. Slavery) people say i am just a militant atheist and i am ruining American etc. Since most people claim their morals from arbitrary lines in holy texts it is no wonder that most of them cannot find the countries we are currently engaged in on a map, because if they can accept arbitrary morals then they must believe every word politicians spew out. And we all know "honest politician" is an oxymoron.

@Brian, glad to hear someone appreciates it. I was afraid this might go right over the heads of most of the internet audience.
