Anecdotal evidence of aerobic activity means nothing. Especially since I can show you just as many people I've known who *have* lost weight through aerobics.

A caveat about running: it's not for everyone. My father and I have a genetic condition which makes our joints (esp. knees) very susceptible to injury; he literally ruined his knees jogging because he didn't know any better, and for my part any repetitive strenuous activity is a serious risk to further injury (I've already spent years of my life in physical therapy). Jogging, bike riding, jumping rope - no matter how moderate I am, it inevitably fucks up my knees to the point where the bones become disjointed and start literally scraping through my cartilage and tendons! The solution I was given, which has allowed me to stay in shape all those years? A combination of walking and aerobics! Walking because it's low-impact, and aerobics because the variety minimizes the risk of repetitive stress injury.

Remember, everyone's body is different; there is no one-size-fits all fitness solution!

@Matthew, yoga is very good for your health, especially your flexibility; however, it doesn't build cardio, stamina, speed, endurance or power. Hence, it's not on the list. I think of yoga more as a supplementary activity.

An exercise that is whole body is yoga; worth mentioning for the type of exercises that you are listing.
