Just think about it: US president (and every god damn neocon for that matter) OPENLY supports a war criminal that just commited genocide. This is unthinkable. They give away a lot of YOUR money to these animals so they can kill women and children. They do that right before your eyes and don’t even care to explain themselves. Why? Because they think that most of their own citizens are too stupid to realize the truth. They show Georgian Grad rockets destroying Tshinvali (this IS a weapon of mass destruction BTW) and say that this is Russia invading Georgia?? Pricks. They wage a war half the world away for NO reason whatsoever and they condemn Russia for saving 118,000 lives. 2,000 were already lost, remember. They send humanitarian help to Georgia??? All the refugies, 34,000 of them are in Russia. Stop the news bullshit, stop those morons in power, open your eyes. I know you are not that dumb as your president thinks of you. Shame on them, it’s all business to them. They bullshit you about freedoms. Freadom of speech? It just went down the drain. Forget about it.

Great points, guys! I dunno that there’s much more I could say to add to what you guys have pointed out. There are LOTS of reasons we should not fight Russia over this b.s. I’m glad that some of you pointed out Georgia’s less-than-pure involvement in the development of this conflict. I left that out of the post and it is very important to remember that a lot of this started because of the actions of the Georgian government.

…which of course was a convenient excuse for Russia to go after the most important oil pipeline in Eurasia.

These are all good reasons, but I think the reason 0 is missing: whenever an american politician says something abount protecting “sovereignty” of some country, he should shut the fuck up until the US pulls all their troops back home where they belong. The US is THE most violent country in the world, not Georgia, and not even Russia.

I’m also pretty sure that Russia doesn’t want to conquer Georgia. (If they did, the Georgia would be fucked by now. ‘Cause when a country like US, Russia, or China decides to invade your country, you’re pretty much fucked up. But the last thing Russia wants is another Chechnya now.) What Russia does certainly want is to prevent Georgia joining NATO, which would mean placing US military bases just beside Russia’s border.

And as Andrew Camp said, let’s not forget who’s the “aggressor” here – it was Georgia who used heavy artillery against civilians, wasn’t it? Who says Russia’s overreacted? From a military standpoint, they did just what was necessary to kick Saakashvili’s ass quickly and effectively.

@Rick, South Ossetia has been a part of Russia for about twenty years now, all of its citizens are Russian citizens. Georgia basically invaded South Ossetia and we don’t condemn them because we like the way they share their pipeline, the reasoning blows your mind.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t this whole thing start because Georgia wanted to stop South Ossetia from exercising the right to self rule? The very same right they exercised against Russia. Hey Georgia, fuck off! Apparently, you’re not ready to handle the responsibility of independence.

“That’s right, you heard me. Neocon leader William Kristol says we owe it to Georgia to defend their nation against Russia because of the 2,000 troops Georgia has given to the War on Terror.”

Reason 4: Last time I looked, Russia had more nukes than they could even keep track of, so a attacking Russia would be tantamount to pushing the big red button marked “Do Not Push,” or more precisely “Cue Armageddon.”

It doesn’t matter who’s military is superior, Russia still has enough nuclear missels to bring about the end of the world.

Personally, I think that while Russia may have used more force than necessary it would be completely acceptable if the U.S. were in Russia’s position. What do you think would happen if Mexico took over part of Texas, killing 1600 U.S. citizens and making nearly 30,000 Texans into refugees? Especially if Washington heard rumors of genocide against European Americans? Assuming Mexico had that force I can guarantee you that we send every available unit into Mexico and destroy their already fragile government. Obviously the Russian overreacted but can you blame them?
