I love European public transportation. Even New York and DC subways are great. I love getting from Maryland to Connecticut in four hours for $60 on Amtrak (versus a 6-8 hour car ride depending on traffic for $100+ in gas), although it was even cooler to go from Paris to Amsterdam on the train.

You want to talk about freedom? In grade school in Switzerland, I could walk to the train and get to school or anywhere else I wanted to go for a couple of Francs, all by myself. At 19 in the Connecticut suburbs without a driver's license, I was trapped at home unless I could beg a ride from my parents. Even with a driver's licence, I was still trapped if one or both of my parents were at work or doing errands.

Public transportation is amazing.

The point is not that we are not being screwed by the gasoline industry. We are. I completely agree.

The point is that everyone else is being screwed by big oil too. They just had the foresight to see the inevitable truth that big business will always screw consumers if they have the chance, and they made adequate preparations.

Have you taken public transit in a developed European nation? Apparently not. It's more efficient than driving through traffic, generally speaking.

So sure, you personally have a right to bitch. America as a nation doesn't. We screwed ourselves. Our elected officials, through poor planning and little concern for the common man, have NO right to bitch.

Nice try, though.

Man, oh man. First your idiotic anti gun rant and now this. It's not looking good for Mr. Firth.

It's always that easy right? The corner store is guaranteed to hire you. But hey, if they don't it's extremely easy to simply move somewhere else and try another store next door, etc etc over and over because we have unlimited money and resources to keep hopping from house to house every day, right?

Everybody can't live right next to the worthwhile employers located in the skyscrapers downtown who actually pay a living wage. Of course we have to take the bus everywhere too because that's always a reliable and efficient use of time....

Since other people pay more for their gas it's OK for the gas stations to rip us the fuck off on a daily basis with their monopoly over an essential commodity? It is greed and price gouging pure and simple and we are suppose to bend over and take it? Not a chance.

Your dream world doesn't exist, so yes we do have a right to bitch.

I guess you might join the real world some day. The rest of us will be waiting for you.
